Childbirth is a journey requiring great flexibility and strength through vulnerability and discomfort.  Calling upon your most valuable tools and resources can help you achieve exceptional happiness and well-being. The purpose and value of a doula is in being a soft, steady, welcoming safe space holder, an empathetic ear, a positive motherly spirit, an unbiased yet personal and thoughtful cheerleader and skilled birthing professional.  She is a wise and present presence who remembers the little things.

A doula is a knowledgeable, non-medical support professional whose sole purpose is to assist with everything that comes with this wild and beautiful new beginning. Statistically, the continuous support of a doula drastically increases your chances of avoiding cesarean and other complications.  At the heart of their work doulas empower and advocate for their client’s best interests with love and compassion.

Step back and imagine the birth, pregnancy, and postpartum experiences that you want for you and for your child. Then look around at my website and see if my personality, skills, and presence can help facilitate that experience.  No doula is a good fit for every birthing person- but those that choose to work with me appreciate my extensive emotional support, dedication to patient advocacy, and joyful spirit.

My passion in life is to work with birthing people to help them feel:

Who am I?

I tend to be the calm in the storm, an optimist and cheerleader, known for bringing people together.  I am an artist, activist, advocate and amateur gardener.

I spent the last ten years working in rehabilitation as an Occupational Therapy Assistant in a long-term acute care hospital and nursing homes. I enjoyed helping people believe in their strengths and achieve their goals. Then a surprise baby at 40 (I have a son 20 years older) showed me how a doula can positively transform a birthing experience. I knew right away it was a calling I was ready to hear!  I recently completed my Childbirth Doula training and certification through DONA International and an internship with The Doula Foundation here in Springfield.

My co-workers would tell you about my contagious laugh and the positive energy I bring.  My husband would say I am transparent and authentic. I am an active listener, a curious learner and someone who shows up.

Prenatal Visits

After beginning our relationship with a meet and greet, as your doula I am committed to your health and the well-being of your growing family, available whenever needed throughout your entire pregnancy as well as after giving birth. I will be there to provide you with continuous emotional and physical support and answer any and all questions you may have.

Birthing Guidance

As your doula I will be on call 24/7 two weeks before your due date and two weeks following your birth.

Though I do not offer medical examinations or recommendations, I can offer questions to consider prior to labor and before interventions to advocate for your wishes and ensure informed decision making in every step of your birthing journey.

I provide cues and techniques to comfort and soothe and can provide coaching to help your partner be their best.  We can implement practical, non-pharmacological methods of pain relief, including physical modalities (heat, cold, massage…), positioning changes, breath work and visualization tools.  Utilizing these methods boosts your mood and empowers your best labor experience. I compliment your ability to face, accept and move through pain to achieve birthing goals.

I recognize the signs and stages of labor progression that can be difficult to realize in the heat of the moment with a helpful presence. I also provide initiation and ongoing breastfeeding/chestfeeding support to encourage bonding and nutritional greatness.  As icing on the cake, I can convey messages to loved ones awaiting news, act as a gatekeeper if needed and take pictures of your precious birthing moments upon request.

Postnatal Visits

In the first few vital hours and weeks home I will be there for you.  We can solidify your breastfeeding/chestfeeding skills, help you adjust to newborn life and prepare your home and your selves in providing a safe and well-equipped space to nurture your family.

As a doula just beginning her home business practice there are many pregnancy related experiences I am interested in exploring, gaining skill and gathering opinions.  Please contact me and we can explore these things together while I’m still learning at a steeply discounted rate.  My interests include: belly casting, meditation for an intention based pregnancy experience, henna, placenta encapsulation, milk and sitz bath recipes, padcicles, belly wraps… and additional practice and fun with pregnancy photography.

Love Stories

"My husband and I were living in Thailand when we found out we were pregnant. As someone who never intended on having children, to say that I was completely lost and out of my element would be an understatement. The doctors barely even spoke English so we had a hard time asking the questions we did have. My long time friend, Jessi, reached out to us and offered her services. Over the next 9 months she was our guide! She provided a wealth of knowledge in so many countless things and was eager to further her research if something came up she didn't know for sure. There was never a time when Jessi wasn't there for us! The guidance, support, and motivation she offered during labor was priceless! We cannot imagine doing it without her and if we ever decide to have another one, she'll be the first person we call!"

"Our birth experience with Jessi was truly incredible; she was an integral addition to our support team. As a doula, Jessi provided suggestions for certain laboring positions and different breathing and relaxation techniques. She was a calm presence throughout my labor and delivery, and in turn made me and my partner feel at ease and comfortable. In fact, my partner found that our delivery room had a calmer atmosphere than the room where our family waited! She worked well with the hospital staff and was a great teammate to my partner, especially when it came to working together to provide me with physical relief during intense contractions. Jessi eased our anxieties about the birth process, and helped to make the welcoming of our daughter into the world a very happy experience. She is knowledgeable, respectful and professional, and I would absolutely recommend her doula services to any soon-to-be parents!"
